This webinar is the first in a 2 Part series and covers the subject of Capital Gains Tax (CGT) at an introductory level.
It provides the background to CGT in Australia and gives an outline of fundamental CGT concepts with legislative references to help navigate through the statutory provisions. Basic CGT events are also examined with practical guidance on the more common CGT events that are encountered on a day-to-day basis.
Given that the CGT regime impacts almost every individual when they dispose of an asset, this webinar may also be of personal interest to individuals that have non-finance roles.
Webinar Learning Outcomes:
The practical aspects of preparing CGT computations are discussed with step-by-step guidance on how net capital gains / (losses) are calculated. The key concepts of ‘CGT asset’, ‘capital proceeds’, ‘cost base’ and ‘reduced cost base’ are covered as well as the general CGT discount.
The webinar also explores how the CGT regime interacts with other provisions in the income tax legislation. Meaningful worked examples are provided throughout to reinforce the technical detail covered.
