A recent Deloitte study found “With more than 35% of companies experiencing a value killer event in the last decade, dealing with black swan [high-impact, low-probability] events and interdependent risks will remain a critical challenge.” This puts the oversight of emerging opportunity and risk items front and centre in effective, modern governance.
This puts the oversight of emerging opportunity and risk items front and centre in effective, modern governance. In this highly thought provoking session, Simon Neaverson FAICD will discuss disruption and change from an obligation on those in oversight perspective. This extends beyond the pace of industry and business model change, to the advancing expectations of the law, the media and society.
Webinar Learning Outcomes:
Simon will highlight the legal evolution of governance expectation in Australia from “what did the directors know” in cases like HIH at the turn of the century, to “what should they know” in Centro and onto more recent examples.
In the context of an environment of rapid Change, Simon will offer some practical means of overseeing Emerging Governance, as a key obligation of modern directors. He will also lay out his model for modern governance, with this focus on Change being at the core of Growth and Risk oversight.
This flows through to the modern board meeting and supporting board pack, and how they should be structured so that directors can dedicate adequate time to these Emerging Governance items, by knowing that today and tomorrow are under control.
