An opportunity to get some clarity after a year like no other.

Hear from Karen Foat, Assistant Commissioner, Individuals and Andrew Watson, Assistant Commissioner, Small Business as we step through the correct application of key incentives and tax deductions available to individuals and small to medium businesses.

This year has seen a raft of measures introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the instant asset write offs and simplified deductions for working from home expenses. This session will provide you with an update on ATO guidance around the latest tax changes issues you need to be across for 2019/20 including vacant land-related deductions and changes to Division 7A.

The ATO will identify and clarify:
• the various incentives and deductions available to individuals and SMEs for the 2019/20 income year.
• how JobKeeper should be handled

Karen Foat - Assistant Commissioner, Engagement & Support – Experiences & Government, Individuals and Intermediaries.
For the past 20 years Karen has worked in many roles in the field of taxation. She currently leads work on the Individuals client experience and is the Tax Time Spokesperson. In her time with the ATO, Karen has worked in a number of areas, including Enterprise Strategy and Design, Policy Analysis and Legislation, Superannuation and Parliamentary Services.

Andrew Watson - Assistant Commissioner, Small Business.
Andrew is currently responsible for understanding how small businesses engage with the tax and super systems and collaborating with small businesses, industry groups and government agencies to shape the client experience and drive improved digital services. His area also helps small businesses manage cash-flow and digital readiness so sustainable and viable businesses can thrive, and advocates for small businesses within the ATO.
