FBT for Mobile Employees including COVID opportunities and challenges

Moving employees from one location to another, whether permanently, temporarily or regularly, represents a significant FBT opportunity and risk for employers.

The FBT law broadly supports mobility with a number of key concessions and exemptions. In our experience many employers are not fully aware of the FBT “upside” with relocations and mobility. These FBT exemptions and concessions apply differently depending on the scenario. In this webinar we will cover the following scenarios and their FBT treatment:

  • Temporary Relocations
  • Permanent Relocations
  • Living Away From Home
  • Remote Area
  • Fly In Fly Out
  • Expatriates

In addition, Paul will consider for each scenario the different ways the benefit may be provided:

  • By way of an allowance
  • Reimbursement
  • Direct provision

In addressing all of the above, Paul will highlight the opportunities and risks, together with dispelling a few myths and discussing common mistakes. Importantly, Paul Mather will work through a number of practical examples and case studies to help illustrate real life situations.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Attendees will be provided with a comprehensive understanding of:
  • The FBT implications of various Relocation, Mobility and LAFH scenarios
  • The FBT Exemptions and Concessions that may apply and the rules / requirements for each
  • Common mistakes and misunderstandings
  • The importance of written policies

In addition, this webinar will illustrate best practice and how to structure arrangements to maximise exemptions and minimize the FBT liability.
