Applying the Principles of Adaptive Leadership

Overview

Leadership quality is a defining factor in organisational and team success, and in this modern VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous) world Adaptive Leadership is considered the best practice

In this session, we explore the key principles of Adaptive Leadership as defined by Ronald Heifetz and Martin Linsky from Harvard including;

  • What it means for us to live and lead in a global environment characterised by Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity (VUCA)
  • Why Leadership is in crisis around the world
  • The different types of challenges that Leaders face and how we can effectively respond to them
  • We identify that whilst the fundamentals of Leadership, such as protecting the organisation, haven’t changed, the way we Lead and perform has. We look at the old ways and the new ways
  • We explore the ten characteristics of Adaptive Leadership and how these skills, which can be learned, contribute to effective problem-solving, better decision-making, and Leadership every day in any team

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will:

  • Understand both the challenges that VUCA environments create as well as the opportunities and advantages
  • Be able to identify the types of challenges their organisation or teams are facing and how best to respond to these
  • Understand the important contribution of Constructive Conflict, Psychological safety, Change Mastery and optimum stress play in modern Leadership
  • What Adaptive Leadership skills they already have, and the aspects they need to further foster and develop
  • A list of further resources for further learning
