Creating and Sustaining Goal-Focussed Teams

Overview
How to cultivate healthy goal orientation in a team to increase performance and goal attainment
There are many types of goals that we seek to achieve in the workplace, and usually it is true that no one person has all the answers for how that goal will be achieved. Significant goals are seldom accomplished by one person doing all the work – so we need to be able to engage our best people in thinking about how to best achieve our goals if we are to be successful.
In this session, we explore the science behind goal setting including both a traditional SMART structure of goals, but also the more expanded often more practical and relevant goal-hierarchy structure that can engage us very differently.
We examine:
• when to apply goals
• how to invite engagement, debate and buy-in when developing goals
• how to align everyone with your most important goals, in the face of the daily noise, business and everyday distractions!
We’ll discuss how to help yourself and your team to structure goals, actions and the next few steps, and how to change these when necessary.
In this practical session, you can expect live polling, sample goal sheets and solid references.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will learn:
• about the science behind the importance of goal orientation in teams and how this positively influences conversations, feedback and engagement as well as performance
