Governance - Implementing the Modern Board Pack

Overview

What should be in a board pack to support the board to meet the challenge of modern governance?

Whilst most of the right materials are often found in board papers, the sheer bulk and hefty focus on last month and today (rather than a healthy balance on next month and next year), often render them dangerously inefficient and ineffective in the modern governance environment.

This is the view of Simon Neaverson FAICD, one of Australia’s leading Governance Implementation experts.

After more than 25 years consulting and lecturing on governance, strategy and board performance, Simon has documented and shared his ideas on what he believes are the key elements of the Modern Board Pack. Now he is constantly asked, “Where do I start?”.

In this introductory session, Simon will explain the critical elements needed in ‘The Modern Board Pack’ to help the board to oversee and support management to manage.

Start the journey to transition your board from a culture of reporting on activity to a culture of reporting to outcomes. Simon’s experience is that adopting this process can save between 30-50% of the time taken to prepare Board papers, as well as optimise the engagement of your Board.

Simon will outline the four key elements in the GovernRight Framework to provide a formula for building a culture of accountability and engagement at all levels, supported by efficient and effective board reporting.

Participants will also receive a copy of ‘The Modern Board Pack’ to help start their journey to Modern Governance.

This session will be first of a 6-part series, assisting you to build a governance and reporting framework for your Boards or your clients’ Boards, that meets the challenges of Modern Governance, through the implementation of ‘the Modern Board Pack’.

Next topics in this series will explore how to implement each section of ‘The Modern Board Pack’:
