International Tax – Tax Treaties, PEs & Cross-border Dealings

Overview
The taxpayer – the meat in the international tax sandwich! International tax is a complex world to navigate. Come on the journey with us through tax cooperation agreements between jurisdictions and understand how you can trip yourself up with rogue employees or cross border transactions
Repeat after me. When you cross borders, you are a potential tax pinata. Avoid getting whacked too hard by understanding how to navigate a world of different tax authorities that play by different rules.
In this session, we’ll go beyond the basics of residency and source and look at some of the triggers for non-Australian tax obligations. We’ll also explore the treaty network that has been set up between sovereign states to allocate taxing rights for cross border businesses and see some of the ways in which these are sometimes circumvented.
We’ll also explore concepts such as permanent establishments (PEs), MLIs, withholding taxes and other forms of double tax relief applicable under Australian law.
Over the course of this three-part series, attendees will gain valuable, practical knowledge of how to navigate key international tax concepts for all levels of Australian taxpayer.
