Successfully Managing the Emotions Associated with Workplace Change

Overview

Workplace change is here to stay – learn the skills for navigating change!

Navigating change, also known as Change Mastery are ‘must have’ skills for anyone wanting to thrive at work.

In this session, we explore the emotional journey that accompanies any significant workplace change, as well as how to navigate this ourselves and support others through the emotions that we and they will experience.

Deb draws from a broad range of research and best practice about emotional intelligence, emotional responsiveness, resistance to change and options available for the healthy expression of emotions including how to process difficult emotions such as anger, resentment, fear, doubt, grief and guilt.

The biggest hurdle, (outside of poor planning and execution) to successful workplace change is employee resistance. This topic leans into this and provides insights on how to shift it for ourselves and for others.

This practical session includes live polling and practical strategies you can apply every day and provides an opportunity to reflect and consider where you are on this emotional journey right now, both in terms of life and the workplace.

Learning Outcomes:

Attendees will gain an understanding of:

  • the emotional cycle of change, and the purpose behind the emotional journey
  • the four categories of expression available to us and how to build skills for healthy expression
  • how to talk to others about the emotional journey of change that will accompany workplace change (such as restructures, mergers, cost saving, innovation and hybrid working) and how to work through this aspect to enable a faster and smoother implementation of change.

Suited to:

Financial and legal professionals, leaders, managers, employees and anyone who is leading a significant workplace change or going through one. For experienced professionals, it will update existing skill sets with some of the latest thinking and research, and it provides an excellent introduction for those who are looking to understand the emotional cycle of change for the first time.
