Working Effectively with Introverts and Extroverts

Overview
Learn specific practices that inspire introverts and extroverts to leverage the energy, insight and strengths that both can bring to your team.
This session will help you learn how to tap into the strengths of introverts and extroverts to improve performance, engagement, problem solving, decision making and innovation.
Research tells us that across a population introversion and extroversion are split pretty evenly. So whatever thinking style you may have, you need to be able to leverage both styles.
However, due to legacy decisions, Leader preference, hiring practices and role specificity the makeup of a given team can vary significantly.
In this session, we explore the following:
- What extroversion and introversion are,
- Why they are different and,
- The different benefits that each style of processing brings.
Beyond the basics, we’ll look at how activating the different contributions of both extroverts and introverts drives performance and how these styles complement each other when balanced well.
The session explores best-practice and proven techniques to:
- help introverts to contribute openly in meetings, forums, brainstorms and discussions, whilst managing extroverts
- help you to understand how each style processes information and how you can leverage this process to encourage energy, depth and more insightful perspectives on challenges, opportunities or issues your team is facing
- learn about the types of leadership situations where introverts thrive and why their skills are powerful contributors to performance
- learn about the types of leadership situations where extroverts thrive and why their skills are powerful contributors to performance
- equip introverted leaders and managers with practical tips on how to speak up more often – especially when you have been put on the spot or need to overcome other communication barriers.
Introverts will often need to be encouraged to speak up, contribute and make an active contribution. Extroverts will often need to be encouraged to think more thoroughly before speaking up, and to make room for others to contribute. This requires skills from leaders to facilitate and balance.
This is a practical session suited to financial and legal professionals who find themselves managing staff or collaborating with stakeholders. For experienced professionals, it will update existing skill sets with some of the latest thinking and research, and it provides an excellent introduction for those who are looking to understand how to work with both extroverts and introverts for the first time.
